But alas, it was written by Michael Broome - a motivational speaker with Premiere Speakers Bureau. There's a LOT of truth in this humorous, dead-on article.
February 1993 - I have lunch with a friend to talk about the musician's "dream job" in Chicago that I had not been chosen for. It was at the end of the lunch when another friend (Janice) walks up and asks "What are you doing these days?". "Well - I'm looking for a job!" "Come and work for me!" she says. "You would be a great event planner!" "A great WHAT!?!?" I said. So 3 days later, I'm working for Janice as an event planner's assistant. Never even knew that there were event planners. Accidently, I fell into a career that took me through 16 years of planning and staging some great events. I worked in a high corporate position for the worlds largest Christian publisher. I've planned small VIP luncheons for 20 people to arena events for 20,000 people. I've done huge trade shows, live performance events, Presidential retirements and innagurals. Even a large statue unveiling. I've learned a lot along the way. Much of it, I had to make up myself. I want to use this blog to help others that find themselves in the role of "Accidental Event Planners".
